1. What is the Riverdale Temple’s 55+ Circle of Friends?

The Circle of Friends is a warm and welcoming social group at Riverdale Temple for couples and singles aged 55 and up. It’s a great way to meet new people, make friends, and strengthen connections with others in our temple community.

2. Where and how often do Circle of Friends meet?

We generally get together once a month on a Sunday for lunch in the Riverdale Temple Ballroom. Sometimes we meet in the new Coffee and Tea Bar in the lobby — a cozy spot with comfortable seating and a lovely view of the garden.

3. In addition to Sunday lunch, usually potluck, what happens at Circle of Friends get-togethers?

We enjoy a variety of events to add to the fun of getting together over lunch. These include short film festivals, Trivia Team Challenge, Bingo, Family Life Stories, and more.

4. Do Sunday events always include planned activities?

Not always. One of our most meaningful get-togethers is “Getting to Know You BETTER”—an opportunity to share background stories that helps to build deeper friendships. At tough times for members, we’re there for them, offering support and friendship alongside the care provided by Riverdale Temple.

5. Do you ever meet on days other than Sunday?

Yes. In addition to our monthly meetings, we sometimes get together in small groups during the week for special activities like short story book discussions or short performances, such as one-person plays.

6. Can members help plan events or suggest ideas?

Yes. Circle of Friends was founded in September 2024 by temple members Linda and Martin Woolf, and we love new ideas. Members are encouraged to help plan events or start smaller interest groups — such as game nights or discussion circles about topics like history or philosophy.

7.  What about field trips?

Smaller groups can plan outings to museums, art galleries, concerts, or other local attractions.

8. Is there a fee?

It’s absolutely free, apart from helping to cover your share of lunch when we meet.
