Riverdale Temple enjoys an active music program for everyone from pre-kindergarten to adult. Our Junior Choir sings at the Kabbalat Shabbat service, usually held on the first Friday of each month. The group rehearses weekly with our cantor, on Sunday mornings at 11:30, after religious school. In addition to singing at the monthly service the choir has been invited to perform at local senior residences and has appeared several times at Rodeph Sholom's (New York City) Festival of Choirs. Our Adult Volunteer Choir rehearses with the cantor in the fall and prepares music for the Shabbat Shirah service, a wonderful service of song that celebrates our rich legacy. The Adult Volunteer Choir has also appeared several times at Rodeph Sholom's (New York City) Festival of Choirs and in other choral festivals.
We always welcome new singers for the Adult Volunteer and Junior Choirs and previous musical experience is not a prerequisite. Members do not need to know how to read music, nor do they need to know how to read Hebrew (nor English, in the case of young children) - they only need a love for singing and a little enthusiasm.
