Hey Alex, Zack, Rebecca, Miriam, Julia, Ericca, Jack, Ethan, Zoe and
Renata,
I hope I spelled your names right along with your e-mail
addresses. Just to be sure, I've included your synagogue's address as
well. I'm writing to thank you all for the package you sent. It just
arrived today because the mail's a little slow over here sometimes.
It's always good to get parcels from home. I've distributed the
contents among the other soldiers here and they all asked me to say
thanks for them as well.

I'm actually familiar with your neighborhood. I grew up in
Scarsdale (Westchester), and went to high school at Horace Mann on W246
St., which is probably only a couple miles from you guys. Most of my
friends from high school and college currently live in NYC.

In answer to your question, no, we're not allowed to drink
alcohol; it's forbidden by something called General Order 1 which lays
out the rules for soldier conduct in this theatre. So, that portion of
the celebration will have to wait until I return.

I have regular access to email, so feel free to send me your
questions at this address, either individually, or as a group, and I'd
be happy to answer them. Hope to here from you all soon.

-Dan Katz
